Supply Chain Act, mobile computers, Auto-ID solutions: How are they connected?

DENSO WAVE EUROPE eases workload of employees with mobile computers and Auto-ID solutions and helps companies address sustainability issues.

D?sseldorf, Germany. The Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains – short: Supply Chain Act – came into force on January 1, 2023. According to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Supply Chain Act regulates corporate responsibility for compliance with human rights in global supply chains. Companies are thus obligated to adapt their processes along the entire supply chain to the legal requirements that protect human rights and the environment.

But how can scanners, handheld terminals, Auto-ID solutions, and the digitalization in general be connected to the new Supply Chain Law?

DENSO, member of the Toyota group, has thought about this connection. Dirk Gelbrich, General Manager Technical Department at DENSO WAVE EUROPE, explains: „We are well aware that we cannot create a fair supply chain with our mobile computers and Auto-ID solutions alone. However, with the mobile data collection devices from DENSO, processes can be optimized. And that has a positive effect on the employees. In the longer term, it also has a positive effect on the environment, for instance, due to a better warehouse management and error-free inventories.“ Further information about scanners, handheld terminals, mobile computers, Auto-ID solutions, RFID, and innovative QR Code models are available at https://www.denso-wave.eu/.

As the inventor of the QR Code, DENSO has always focused on the optimization of inventory management. When developing mobile data collection devices, the member of the Toyota group always keeps the users in mind, who work, among other industries, in retail, transport or manufacturing.

And what does that conclude when it comes to the Supply Chain Act? How do mobile computers and Auto-ID solutions help companies to comply with the legal requirements?

When checking the processes along the supply chain, a vast amount of data is generated. When collecting this data, employees can use DENSO“s mobile computers. Furthermore, a digital supply chain system can be added. The BHT-M series from DENSO is ideal for the use in the manufacturing, transport, and retail industries.

From autumn 2023, the handhelds from DENSO“s BHT-M series will be equipped with Android 13. With this update, DENSO is responding to the needs of users in several industries. „Android is an intuitive operating system and the majority of users is familiar with it because they use their own smartphones,“ says Gelbrich. Therefore, the training phases are usually quite short, which in turn leads to time and cost savings – two of the biggest advantages for companies. With regard to the Supply Chain Law, there is also no way around the advancing digitization. „By collecting data with mobile computers, errors and possible risks along the supply chain can be identified and solved more quickly, if not avoided altogether,“ adds Gelbrich.

The mobile computers of DENSO“s BHT-M series offer further advantages for users, as they are DENSO’s most powerful mobile handhelds. The BHT-M80 has, among other outstanding features, a large, user-friendly 5-inch touch display, and the BHT-M70 also has a large touch display (4-inch), as well as a powerful scan engine. Like the BHT-M60, the BHT-M70 combines excellent scanning performance with comfortable handling thanks to its ergonomically shaped handle.

„As already mentioned, we cannot create fair supply chains with our mobile computers and Auto-ID solutions alone. But we can support and advise our clients and optimize processes together,“ says Gelbrich and looks to the future optimistically. The Supply Chain Act may pose challenges; however, it is essential for better protection of people and the environment. „And with DENSO“s modern technologies, our customers can better accept and master these challenges,“ he says.
